Godwin Emefiele, the beleaguered former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has entered a not guilty plea to the charge that he approved the printing of N684.5 million at the rate of N18.96 billion.
Emefiele made this statement on Wednesday, 15 May during his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, where he was charged with four counts, in front of Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court in Abuja.
In the four-count indictment against him, the EFCC claimed that Emefiele violated the law with the intention of harming the public while carrying out the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s naira swap program.
Additionally, the anti-graft agency charged Emefiele with illegally authorizing the removal of N124.08 billion from the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
