Philip Emmanuel, a 17-year-old chef, has confessed to collaborating with Precious, a driver, to murder their employer, Mrs. Adene Iyabode Deborah, in Ondo State.
The gruesome act was motivated by a desire to steal N150,000 that was reportedly deposited into the victim’s account.
Mrs. Deborah, a caterer, was found dead in her apartment after being missing for several days.
Emmanuel, who had worked for her for five months, disclosed that Precious, who had been employed as a driver for only two months, had overheard about the money and convinced him to commit the crime.
According to Emmanuel, Precious brought him a drink laced with drugs before attacking Mrs. Deborah with a cutlass.
Despite initially expressing remorse, Emmanuel revealed that after the murder, Precious discovered only N60,000 in the account and paid him N30,000. Emmanuel then fled to Idanre.
Ondo Police Commissioner Oladipo Abayomi condemned the crime and urged the public to exercise caution when discussing sensitive financial matters around others, particularly those in positions of trust.
