The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has clarified the purpose behind the distribution of hundreds of wheelbarrows and shovels to youths in the state.
This statement came in response to a mocking comment by an X user, @OpeBee, on the microblogging site formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, August 6.
In a video seen online by Becksblog, the governor was seen inspecting trucks loaded with orange-colored wheelbarrows.
@OpeBee criticized the government, writing, “See Kano for Heaven’s sake. See what a governor is sharing for empowerment? Abba Yusuf is doing well but PBAT is doing so badly.”
Governor Yusuf responded on his official handle, debunking the empowerment claims and clarifying that the tools were distributed for the 2024 Kano drainage clearance exercise.
He stated, “Obviously not empowerment materials, but tools recently distributed to community development associations in Kano for the 2024 Kano Drainage Clearance Exercise.”
He further highlighted the state’s initiatives aimed at youth development, mentioning the enrollment of numerous young people in the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Institute, where they are learning modern technical skills.
He also noted the reopening of 26 tertiary and entrepreneurial institutions, which had been closed for eight years. These institutions, undergoing remodeling and renovation, are set to provide opportunities for thousands of youths in various entrepreneurial ventures across sectors like agriculture, IT, education, security, and sports.
Additionally, Governor Yusuf mentioned the sponsorship of over 1000 first-class graduates pursuing their master’s degrees in India and Uganda, and the consistent payment of tuition fees for Kano State undergraduate students in various universities across the country, all free of charge.
Governor Yusuf concluded by encouraging constructive feedback and urging people to share only verifiable information, devoid of any mischief and fabrication.
