A tragic incident has emerged from Nasarawa State, where a 19-year-old Moroccan university student, Anas Zubairu, was brutally murdered by his kidnappers after a ransom of N17 million was paid for his release.
Zubairu, who was visiting his family during a holiday, was abducted last Friday evening around 6 p.m. in Lafia.
Reports indicate that he had just spent some time with his family and was preparing to leave when the kidnappers, who had been lying in wait, ambushed him.
As he parked his car to secure the gate before driving to his house, the assailants shot him in the left shoulder and took him to an undisclosed location.
The abductors contacted Zubairu’s family five days later, demanding a ransom of N30 million.
After intense negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N17 million, which the family managed to raise and pay in hopes of securing his safe return.
However, the situation took a dark turn two days after the payment was made, as the kidnappers suddenly ceased all communication with the family.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, 1st September, 2024, the kidnappers contacted the family one final time, delivering the heartbreaking news that Zubairu had been killed.
This tragic incident has sparked outrage and fear among residents of Nasarawa State, as the authorities launch a manhunt for the culprits responsible for this heinous crime.
