A 36-year-old woman, identified only as Abiola, tragically lost her life during a buttocks enlargement surgery at a clinic in the Lekki-Phase 1 area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Monday, around 3 pm, when Abiola reportedly underwent the cosmetic procedure known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
The surgery, which involves transferring fat from other parts of the body to the buttocks to enhance their shape, turned fatal shortly after a nurse administered an injection.
Abiola, who had traveled from her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ibeju Lekki, instructed her driver to take her to the clinic for the operation.
According to sources, the clinic owner directed a nurse to administer the injection.
However, soon after, Abiola lost consciousness and began struggling to breathe.
In a desperate attempt to save her life, she was rushed to a nearby hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the tragic incident on Wednesday, August 28. Hundeyin also disclosed that a suspect, believed to be the nurse who administered the injection, was arrested on Tuesday, following the report made by the deceased’s driver to the Maroko Police Division.
“The private driver of the deceased reported the incident to the Maroko division. Our officers visited the scene and the body was sent to a public morgue for an autopsy. The nurse who injected the deceased has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin stated.
The case has raised concerns over the safety and regulation of cosmetic procedures in the country, prompting a thorough investigation by the authorities.
