Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away.
The commissioner reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, following complications from a prostate cancer surgery.
Sources close to the family disclosed that Ayilara underwent surgery on Wednesday, August 28, but his condition deteriorated shortly afterward, leading to his death.
A family representative confirmed the tragic news, stating, “We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family member, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead.”
Ayilara was a distinguished officer who served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department before his promotion to the position of Commissioner.
He took over the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Command in February 2024, following his deployment by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
His death has sent shockwaves through the police force and the community he served, as he was known for his dedication and commitment to maintaining law and order.
