Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has shed light on his interactions with controversial social media figure Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, during his legal struggles earlier this year.
Falz confirmed that Bobrisky had requested ₦3 million to secure a VIP section at a Nigerian Correctional Centre.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Falz clarified the situation following a letter from his legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, which demanded a retraction from social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
The letter addressed defamatory claims alleging that Falz conspired with Bobrisky to pervert justice by offering financial aid in exchange for a favorable legal outcome.
Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, explained in the letter that while Bobrisky reached out to Falz for advice, the singer never agreed to provide any financial assistance.
Olawanle emphasized that Bobrisky had initiated the conversation, asking for money to secure a more comfortable stay in prison. However, Falz strongly advised against making any payments.
The legal letter detailed the interaction, revealing that Bobrisky contacted Falz on May 4, 2024, requesting ₦3 million, claiming his lawyers had mishandled his case and that he needed the funds to secure a VIP prison section.
Falz rejected the request and offered only legal advice, making it clear that no financial aid was necessary.
Falana & Falana Chambers also addressed VeryDarkMan’s Instagram post from September 25, 2024, where he insinuated that Falz and his father were involved in the legal matter surrounding Bobrisky.
The legal team demanded a public apology and a retraction across all platforms within 24 hours, warning of legal consequences if the defamatory claims were not corrected.
The letter also condemned the insinuation that Falz was involved in a homosexual affair or seeking a presidential pardon for Bobrisky.
It concluded by stating that if VeryDarkMan failed to comply, legal action would follow, including claims for monetary damages to protect Falz’s reputation.
