At least nine people were killed, and one other person was critically injured in a fresh attack by gunmen in the Congo community of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to sources within the community who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said the injured victim is in critical condition and is receiving urgent medical attention.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred around 8 pm on Tuesday at the community’s market, shortly after it had closed for the day.
Most traders and customers had already left, leaving only a few people behind when the assailants struck.
This tragic event has heightened the already tense security situation in Bokkos, as the area has experienced a series of attacks on various communities in recent times.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
