Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has resigned from his position, effective immediately.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Saturday, September 7, 2024, Ngelale announced that he submitted a memo to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, informing him of his decision to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence to address pressing medical concerns within his immediate family.
In addition to stepping down from his advisory role, Ngelale has also resigned as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and as Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
He expressed the difficulty of his decision but emphasized that family health matters necessitated his pause in national service.
“On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate nuclear family,” Ngelale shared on his social media.
While acknowledging that “the ship of state waits for no man,” Ngelale stated that his decision followed consultations with his family and that he hopes to return to national duties once circumstances allow.
He requested privacy during this challenging period.
The resignation marks a significant shift in the Tinubu administration, where Ngelale played a key role in shaping media strategy and leading important national initiatives.
