A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for importing 74 parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent form of synthetic cannabis, into Nigeria. The total weight of the illicit drugs was 35.20 kilograms.
Munju was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
Her arrest occurred during the inward clearance of passengers at the airport’s Arrival Hall.
The court convicted Munju on two counts of drug importation.
However, the presiding judge granted her the option of paying a fine of N50 million for each count, totaling N100 million, as an alternative to serving the prison term.
