The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on drug-related activities with a major bust involving a community leader’s family in Badagry West LCDA, Lagos.
Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Talba, the Sarkin Yamma of Badagry West, is currently on the run after a raid by NDLEA operatives led to the arrest of his wives and son for possessing 226 kg of cannabis.
The raid, which took place on Wednesday, September 18th, targeted two of Talba’s residences.
NDLEA operatives recovered a substantial amount of compressed cannabis blocks during the operation.
According to the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Talba’s first wife, Asma’u Bashiru, 35, and his son, Sadat Bashiru, 22, were apprehended at their home in the Ashipa area of Seme Badagry with 93 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing 57.6 kg.
Further searches at Talba’s second residence in the Aketegbo area of Seme Badagry led to the arrest of his second wife, Hauwa Bashiru, 42, after authorities found 302 compressed blocks of cannabis, weighing 168.6 kg.
Despite the arrests of his family members, Talba himself remains at large. Authorities are actively searching for the community leader, who is believed to have fled following the raid.
The NDLEA’s swift action is part of ongoing efforts to curb the drug trade and reduce the proliferation of illicit substances in the region.
Babafemi emphasized that the agency remains committed to bringing those involved in drug trafficking to justice, regardless of their social standing.
Investigations are ongoing as the NDLEA intensifies its hunt for Alhaji Talba, urging members of the public to provide any information on his whereabouts.
