The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the suspension of several senior officers allegedly involved in the Bobrisky bribery scandal.
This follows the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board’s (CDCFIB) decision to suspend four officers linked to corruption cases.
Among the officers is Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Michael Anugwa, who appeared before the House of Representatives Investigation panel on Monday, September 30.
During the session, Anugwa claimed he had not been officially notified of his suspension.
In response, the Nigerian Correctional Service issued a statement signed by Assistant Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer Umar Abubakar, clarifying that Anugwa and three others were indeed suspended.
The statement described Anugwa’s denial as a “gross misconduct” intended to mislead the public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigerian Correctional Service suspended not only the officer seen in the video but also three other officers following their alleged involvement in various misconducts,” the statement read.
The suspended officers include DCC Sikiru Adekunle (Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos), DCC Michael Anugwa (Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos), DCC Kevin Ikechukwu Iloafonsi (Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, FCT), and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections (ASC II) Ogbule Samuel Obinna (Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abakiliki, Ebonyi).
The suspension, which took effect on September 26, 2024, was confirmed through letters from the CDCFIB, with reference numbers CDCFIB/NCOS/DISP/016/VOL.II/16 and CDCFIB/NCOS/DISP/016/VOL.II/17. The letters were reportedly conveyed to the officers in question.
