The Dangote Group has refuted claims that it sold petroleum products to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) at the rate of N898 per litre. The company made this denial via its official Twitter page on Sunday night, September 15, 2024.
In a statement signed by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, the company described the reports as misleading and malicious. The statement read:
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, that we sell our PMS at N898 per litre to the NNPCL.
“This statement is both misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today, September 15, 2024, towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has bedeviled the economy in the past 50 years.”
Dangote Group urged Nigerians to dismiss the false report, emphasizing that a formal announcement on pricing will be made by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, which was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement is expected to be made on October 1, 2024.
The company further clarified that its current stock of crude was procured in dollars, and the products sold to NNPCL were also priced in dollars, offering significant savings compared to imported products.
It reassured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products across the country, with the aim of eliminating fuel scarcity.
The statement concluded with the assurance of Dangote Group’s commitment to addressing the nation’s long-standing energy crisis.
