U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as Chief of Staff, marking a historic milestone as the first woman to hold the influential position.
The announcement, posted by Trump’s campaign on X (formerly Twitter), comes as the president-elect begins assembling his White House team ahead of his January 20 return to the Oval Office.
Calling Wiles the “winner campaign manager,” Trump described her appointment as “a well-deserved honor.”
“She is tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected,” Trump said, highlighting her pivotal role in securing his recent electoral victory.
Trump added that Wiles “just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history.”
The Chief of Staff is one of the most powerful roles in U.S. government, acting as the president’s gatekeeper, coordinating White House operations, and liaising with Congress and other federal departments.
Vice President-elect JD Vance celebrated the appointment on X, saying, “This is great news. Susie was a huge asset to President Trump on the campaign and will be a huge asset in the White House.”
Wiles’ appointment signals a new chapter for Trump’s leadership team, following a turbulent first presidency during which he cycled through four Chiefs of Staff, including retired General John Kelly, who later became a vocal critic, referring to Trump as a “fascist” and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump is expected to make additional staffing announcements in the coming weeks as he prepares for his second term in office.
