The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, has advised residents to avoid participating in the nationwide protest planned for August 1.
In a statement to reporters on Monday, July 22, he said, “I specifically appeal to the residents and natives of the FCT. Lions do not destroy their dens, and you will not see a lion destroy its own den.
I urge you not to join this protest. We have worked hard to ensure your safety, fighting criminals outside Abuja and traveling to Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Niger to keep you safe. I have lost men in this effort.
Just last week in Gidango, I lost two policemen, and recently, I lost two more. Let our sacrifices be enough. I ask you to stay off the streets and avoid testing the police’s strength.
You might say you will do this or that, but please, do not destroy your home. If you look around, the government has provided good roads.”
