The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has acknowledged the rising economic challenges facing Nigerians, highlighting the growing frustration and hunger experienced across the country.
He made these remarks on Wednesday, September 18, during an event in Ibadan, the state capital.
Governor Makinde expressed concern about the prevailing economic hardship, noting the palpable anger and discontent among citizens.
“We know times are hard, and Nigerians are hungry and angry. But I hope this will not boil over,” he said, reflecting on the potential consequences of the difficult circumstances.
Despite the nationwide crisis, Makinde emphasized his administration’s proactive approach to managing the situation within Oyo State. He revealed that the state is doing everything possible to mitigate the effects of the economic downturn.
Makinde also addressed the recent passage of the Presumptive Tax Bill by the Oyo State House of Assembly. While he confirmed his intention to sign the bill into law, he assured citizens that the implementation would be postponed for now.
“Yes, it came from us because if we need to expand the economy, we need to generate money. I will sign it into law, but we will not implement it for now,” he stated.
Governor Makinde’s comments reflect growing concerns about the national economic situation and its impact on the well-being of Nigerians, particularly as inflation, unemployment, and other financial pressures continue to mount.
