EFCC chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede shared an incident from his office where he was impressed by the remarkable IT skills of a 17-year-old cybercriminal.
He mentioned that the 17-year-old was able to access his phone number and BVN (Bank Verification Number) while they were in his office in Lagos.
He noted that the young boy was so engrossed in his laptop that it appeared as though he had entirely forgotten he was in the office.
Using the BVN, he revealed the EFCC chairman’s bank and account details, and even offered to demonstrate how he could transfer funds from the chairman’s account to his own.
The EFCC chairman noted that what these young men truly require is guidance to redirect their skills towards lawful pursuits, steering them away from seeing fraud as a viable lifestyle choice.
He also highlighted their efforts to avoid imposing harsh sentences on young men, aiming not to prematurely end their lives and careers.
