Eldee The Don Claims He Motivated Wizkid To Pursue Afrobeats
Nigerian rapper and music pioneer, Lanre Dabiri, popularly known as Eldee The Don, has revealed his role in shaping the early career of Grammy-winning artist Wizkid.
Speaking on the Adesope Live Show, Eldee shared that when Wizkid joined the EME record label, he was initially inclined towards Reggae and Dancehall music.
Eldee, however, encouraged him to focus on creating music with strong Nigerian roots, blending traditional elements with contemporary sounds.
“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single,” Eldee said.
“But I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavors in it.”
Eldee added that Wizkid took the advice to heart, resulting in the creation of tracks like Don’t Dull, which became a stepping stone in Wizkid’s rise to stardom.
Currently residing overseas, Eldee continues to reflect on the influence he has had on Nigeria’s vibrant music industry, particularly as Afrobeats has gained global recognition.
