Vivian Wilson, the 20-year-old estranged transgender daughter of billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk, has announced her plans to leave the United States following Donald Trump’s recent election victory.
The decision was shared by Wilson on Threads, where she expressed her discomfort with the political climate under Trump’s return to office.
Wilson, who legally changed her name and gender in 2022 and severed ties with her father, stated that her decision had been brewing for some time but was solidified by Trump’s victory. “I don’t see my future in the United States,” she wrote, noting that the political landscape, even with the possibility of Trump serving only one term, made her feel unwelcome. “Even if anti-trans regulations don’t materialize, the people who voted for this aren’t going anywhere anytime soon,” she added.
Vivian, born Xavier Musk in 2004, filed for the name and gender change in 2022, distancing herself from her father by adopting her mother’s maiden name, Wilson. In court filings, she made it clear that she did not wish to maintain any relationship with Elon Musk, stating, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
Elon Musk, a vocal supporter of Trump, has been open about his strained relationship with his daughter. He has previously criticized her gender transition, referring to her as a “communist” and claiming he was misled into consenting to her use of puberty blockers. Musk has also expressed strong views against gender dysphoria, calling it “incredibly evil” and describing puberty blockers as “sterilisation drugs.”
In response, Vivian shared that her father’s involvement in her childhood was minimal and that he often criticized her for her “femininity and queerness.” She remarked, “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there. I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness. I’ve been reduced to a stereotype. I think that says a lot about how he views queer people and children in general.”
