On the evening of Thursday, 13 June, armed robbers targeted a bank complex in the Abaji Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leading to the death of a policeman and injuries to a bank security guard.
The assault started around 6pm when the robbers emerged from a vehicle and began shooting at a nearby police station. After killing the officer, they proceeded to the bank, firing indiscriminately.
A security guard was shot while trying to flee, and the robbers attempted but failed to break into the bank’s strong room.
Police, along with soldiers and vigilantes, swiftly responded, engaging the robbers in a shootout that resulted in the death of two assailants.
Residents, infuriated by the attack, captured one robber and set him on fire, according to a local witness.
The FCT Police Command has confirmed the incident and deployed an anti-robbery squad and local security personnel to hunt down the remaining robbers.
