The Federal Government, under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, has officially commenced the distribution of 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles aimed at empowering Nigerian youth.
The initiative was launched on Tuesday at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja as part of Nigeria’s 64th Independence celebrations.
Michael Oluwagbemi, the Project Director of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, emphasized that the tricycle distribution fulfills President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reducing transportation costs, improving economic well-being, and promoting environmental sustainability by utilizing clean fuel.
He also highlighted the job creation potential, stating that the tricycles, assembled in Shagamu, would generate employment opportunities in operations, maintenance, and deployment across the country.
“These tricycles are not only for use in Nigeria but are also assembled here in Shagamu by over 50 young people, with more tricycles expected to be produced. This initiative marks the start of a transport revolution in the country,” said Oluwagbemi.
The initiative aims to create thousands of jobs for the youth and contribute to the government’s efforts to promote a greener economy and more efficient transportation system in Nigeria.
