In a heartbreaking incident, five personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) lost their lives in a serious auto crash on the Jos-Akwanga Express Road on 22 October 2024.
The personnel were en route to a sporting event in Abuja when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck.
The Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, confirmed the tragedy in a statement released on Tuesday.
He expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “The Nigerian Air Force deeply regrets to announce the loss of five of our gallant personnel who were involved in a tragic road traffic accident.”
The accident occurred near Hawan Kibo, and the NAF has initiated protocols to provide support for the families of the deceased.
Akinboyewa urged the public to respect the privacy of the victims’ families during this challenging time and to avoid sharing unverified information regarding the incident.
He added, “Consequently, the statutory administrative protocols applicable in circumstances such as this have been activated by the NAF to provide comfort and support to the bereaved families. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
As the investigation continues, the NAF community mourns the loss of its members, highlighting the risks faced by personnel even outside their official duties.
