Former Chief Registrar of the Borno Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Bala Abubakar, along with his wife and two daughters, tragically lost their lives in a fire at their residence on Damboa Road in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in the early morning hours, is believed to have been caused by an electrical surge.
A family source confirmed that the fire claimed the lives of the entire family, leaving the community in shock and grief.
Abubakar, who had recently retired from his position as Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government, had been working with a private borehole drilling company before the tragic incident.
A close friend of Abubakar took to Facebook to express his sorrow, describing him as a “very humble” and “down-to-earth” individual. The friend shared, “Not long ago, we spoke extensively on contemporary issues, and I assured him that I would visit him in his new house whenever I happened to be in Maiduguri. I never knew that was the last time I would hear his voice. Allahu Akbar.”
The friend continued, “A very humble and down-to-earth personality is gone along with cherished members of his immediate family. They had since been buried in Maiduguri today. May Allah (swt) admit them into Aljannah Firdausih.”
The tragic loss has left family and friends mourning deeply, as they remember the deceased for their kind and gentle nature.
The community in Maiduguri is also in mourning, with many offering prayers for the souls of the departed and for strength for those left behind.
