Four female inmates from the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service made significant strides in their rehabilitation journey by participating in the June/July 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
These inmates, housed at the Custodial Facility in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area, were among the six originally enrolled to take the National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) exams.
According to a statement released by SC Aminu Suleman, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, two of the enrolled inmates were unable to sit for the exams as they had legally regained their freedom before the exams commenced.
The inmates, who began their educational pursuits through adult literacy classes at the Female Custodial Facility, were commended for their dedication and resilience.
Deputy Controller of Corrections, DCC Odoh Jane, expressed pride in their achievement and highlighted the efforts of the Nigerian Correctional Service, under the leadership of CGCS Haliru Nababa, to rehabilitate and reform inmates through various educational and skills acquisition programs.
DCC Odoh Jane also encouraged the inmates to continue their studies and contribute positively to society upon their release.
Miss Mercy, speaking on behalf of the other inmates, expressed gratitude to the management of the Correctional Service and vowed to be ambassadors of change.
