The Facebook community in Jos, Plateau state has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of Emily Jaff Song, who passed away on her birthday, Monday, August 19, 2024.
Emily’s passing has left her friends and loved ones in deep sorrow, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Earlier in the day, friends had begun posting pictures and messages to celebrate Emily’s birthday, unaware of the heartbreaking news that was about to unfold.
The joy of the celebration quickly turned to grief when it was revealed that Emily had passed away in the hospital after a brief illness.
Emily’s sister, Abigail Zere Kim, spoke with Becksblog and confirmed the devastating news.
Abigail, who had initially posted a birthday message for her sister, expressed disbelief, writing, “Happy birthday sister. I refuse to believe anything anyone is saying.”
The outpouring of grief on social media has been overwhelming.
Alice Zakari, one of Emily’s close friends, wrote, “My heart is very heavy and it bleeds at the same time… Yesterday was supposed to be your birthday, but death came and took you away. Kai, this one hit me. I know you are resting in the bosom of the Almighty. Rest in peace, sweetheart.”
Another friend, Lonny John Lohnan, who had visited Emily in the hospital just a day before, shared his sorrowful experience.
He wrote, “My beautiful Heart sister, Emily Jaff Song, I will miss you plenty. Seeing you in that bed yesterday night was so heartbreaking as if it’s not true. When I came to see you on Sunday afternoon, I was hopeful that you would be on your feet again. I noticed with all my gist in the ward, you couldn’t say a word. I stood up and said, ‘my love Emily, see you later ko,’ you raised your right hand and waved, then I became hopeful that God can. Hmmmmm, you were a good person, my sister. Heavenly gains kowai, I must say. Rest well sister and happy birthday to you again; you left on your birthday. Sai Godiya…”
Isaac Ojih Daniels, another grieving friend, reflected on the fragility of life in his tribute: “He who lives life without thinking about death and its reality is faking the truth about living. Your praises will be in the heavenly heavens, not on earth. May God receive your good soul. May your soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
The untimely death of Emily Jaff Song has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her, as they come to grips with the reality of her passing on the very day meant to celebrate her life.
