A Nigerian woman, Juliet Ene Pius, has publicly called out the management of Silverbird Television’s Rhythm FM Jos, Plateau State, for allegedly owing her husband five to six months’ salary.
In an emotional series of posts shared on her Facebook page, Juliet expressed her frustration over the financial and emotional toll the situation has taken on her family.
Juliet revealed that she had previously reached out to Silverbird Group’s founder, Ben Murray-Bruce, via direct message, hoping to resolve the issue, but her efforts yielded no response.
She accused the radio station of negligence and indifference towards its employees’ welfare, despite the challenging economic conditions in Nigeria.
In one of her posts, Juliet wrote:
“This is the 5th or 6th month now. The people working for your company have families, they are human, they have to eat, they have bills to pay. What type of wickedness is this? The economy of this country is frustrating already. Pay your workers, Rhythm 93.7!”
She also recounted a harrowing experience from last year when her husband had to plead with the station’s HR to release two months’ salary so she could afford a blood transfusion during a medical emergency.
Juliet expressed disbelief that funds were available but withheld until such a critical moment.
She continued to highlight the hardships her family endures due to the unpaid wages, including her husband’s struggles to commute to work on an empty stomach and their reliance on loans and support from friends and family to survive.
Juliet criticized the broader culture of silence and fear among workers in Nigeria, writing:
“Nigerians are used to suffering and smiling because if you talk about how bad your company treats you, you may get fired.”
Her plea is a call for Rhythm FM Jos to prioritize its employees’ welfare and promptly pay the overdue salaries.
Attempts to reach the management of Silverbird Television for comments on these allegations have been unsuccessful at the time of this report.
