Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef Smith, was arrested and detained at La Police Station for falsely claiming to have set a Guinness World Record for marathon cooking.
Smith presented a certificate at a press conference, stating he had cooked continuously for 820 hours and 25 minutes from February 1 to March 6, 2024.
The event included performances by Praye Tietia, Yaw Tog, Amerado, Kofi Jamar, and the Asakaa Boys.
During the press conference at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, Smith expressed his pride in claiming the Guinness World Record title.
However, the authenticity of his certificate was denied by Guinness World Records’ PR Executive, Alina Polianskaya, confirming that Alan Fisher of Ireland holds the legitimate record of 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds.
Following the revelation, Smith was apprehended. Reports suggest he had received substantial sponsorship money, including from the owner of Amadia Shopping Mall, who donated about 350,000 cedis. Efforts to reach the La Police Station for comment were unsuccessful.
Alan Fisher, the current record holder, achieved two cooking-related Guinness World Records titles in Matsue, Japan.
