Veteran Nigerian actor Mike Ogundu, famously known for his role as Nwoke in the hit TV series Issakaba, has recounted a harrowing experience in Aba, Abia State, where he narrowly escaped being lynched by a mob.
Ogundu shared his ordeal, which took place at the bustling Ariaria International Market, describing how he was wrongly accused of theft.
“It was a sunny day in Line A, and I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.
According to the actor, chaos erupted when someone falsely accused him of stealing a bag.
“All I heard was a sudden voice shouting, ‘Na him be that man wey collect the bag.’ Before I could process what was happening, I was on the ground, receiving slaps from all angles,” he narrated.
The situation escalated as the crowd became more aggressive, with someone reportedly searching for fuel to set him ablaze.
However, a bystander recognized Ogundu from his iconic role in Issakaba and intervened. “The person shouted, ‘Nwoke! Ah, Issakaba Nwoke!’ and everything stopped instantly,” he said.
Ogundu seized the opportunity to appeal to the mob and share his message against jungle justice. “Please stop jungle justice; it’s not good,” he pleaded.
The actor’s experience underscores the dangers of mob actions and the urgent need for public enlightenment and adherence to lawful processes.
