The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday.
Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious after securing a total of 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.
The APC candidate won in all 18 local government areas of the state.
Announcing the results in Akure, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, stated, “Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected.”
Aiyedatiwa, who hails from Ilaje Local Government Area in the southern senatorial district of the state, became governor on December 27, 2023, succeeding the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
His re-election reinforces the APC’s dominance in Ondo State, with supporters celebrating his victory as a mandate for continuity and development.
