Nigerian singer Skales has opened up about his long-held belief that fellow musician Wizkid never liked him, despite their shared history under the same record label, EME.
In an emotional interview on Listen With Osi, Skales shared two instances that have shaped his perception of Wizkid’s attitude toward him over the years.
Skales recounted a memorable Twitter exchange where, during a Q&A session, he jokingly mentioned that Wizkid “did not have [his] time anymore.” According to Skales, this comment sparked a series of insults from Wizkid, including personal attacks on his family and accusations of wearing fake jewelry.
However, Skales clarified that he did not respond directly to the insults; instead, his ex-girlfriend handled the replies. He explained his reasoning by saying, “I pick my battles” and did not want to add fuel to the fire, knowing the public might see him as jealous or envious of Wizkid’s success.
Reflecting on the situation years later, Skales admitted that he could never shake the feeling that Wizkid harbored negative feelings toward him. “I’ve tried to make peace with him, like, ‘yo, you know, we will talk, cool,’ but you know, as I was saying, he didn’t like me,” Skales revealed.
One particular incident that stood out to Skales was during the filming of the music video for “Mukulu.” Skales recalled that Wizkid was absent from the shoot, citing a flat tire as the reason.
However, Skales found it hard to believe this excuse, noting that other top artists like Don Jazzy and Davido were present. This only reinforced Skales’ impression that Wizkid had no interest in maintaining a relationship with him.
Despite these tensions, Skales stressed that he holds no grudges and remains focused on his own journey. “I always used to have this impression that this guy doesn’t like me, but I mean we’re here, so we might as well just do whatever we have to do,” he concluded.
