Nigerian Man Admits Defaming Businessman to Gain Popularity
Stanley Okoruwa, a 24-year-old man, has been arrested for defaming businessman Emeka Okonkwo, also known as E-money.
Okoruwa confessed that he spread false rumors about E-money having a secret relationship with the widow of the late actor Junior Pope to attract followers.
The suspect, from Edo state, stated he did it for “fun” and popularity while being presented by the authorities.
“I made a video about Sir E-Money and said many untrue things. I referenced a video I saw online where a woman accused Emoney of being behind everything related to Junior Pope’s case. I said something similar and also claimed Sir Emoney was having an affair with Junior Pope’s wife.
“I created that video to grow my page. I had no intention of tarnishing Sir E-Money’s reputation. I didn’t expect the video to gain such attention. I know it was wrong, but I didn’t foresee this outcome. Everything in that video is false. There was no truth to it. I was just trying to become popular or maybe get a chance to meet Sir E-Money, but I didn’t anticipate it would escalate this far.”
He clarified that his Facebook page is not monetized and he did not profit from it.
The suspect also apologized to the businessman and asked for his forgiveness.
