Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) this morning at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Ajaero was preparing to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official engagement when DSS operatives detained him.
The exact reasons for the arrest remain unclear.
However, sources indicate that Ajaero has been transferred to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for further questioning.
The NLC president was scheduled to attend a Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in the UK today.
This arrest comes in the wake of an earlier police invitation for Ajaero to address questions regarding his alleged involvement in terrorism financing.
The situation has raised concerns about the timing and motivations behind the arrest.
