Information reaching Becksblog.com.ng, that suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, who shot dead a Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Lagos state High Court Sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.
During the court trials, Vandi, being the sole witness in his own defence, argued that the bullet presented in court, purportedly responsible for Raheem’s death, did not originate from the rifle he carried on the day of the incident.
He also claimed that he had never seen the bullet until it was tendered in court.
However, Justice Ibironke Harrison sentenced ASP Drambi Vandi on Monday, October 9 after finding him guilty of the offense.
According to report that the incident happened on Christmas day 2022, when the pregnant deceased and her family were coming back home from an outing before she met her untimely death.
Harrison said;
“On 25 December 2022, Vandi allegedly killed Mrs Raheem, who was pregnant at that time, at the Ajah roundabout in Lagos.
“The police officer was attached to the Ajiwe police division in the Ajah area of the state.
“Vandi’s heinous act was widely condemned by Nigerians and he was suspended two days after the incident.
“Lagos state government had presented a one-count charge of murder of the lawyer against the defendant and subsequently arraigned him”.
