Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, visited the victims of a mosque attack in Gezawa Local Government Area, Kano State, on Sunday, May 19.
Obi shared pictures of the victims lying in hospital beds with various injuries on his verified X handle on Monday.
In his words: “This is very horrific and remains very condemnable. It’s sad this can happen in our nation today. Nobody can say why this young boy can do a thing like this to his own family members and the society.
“We remain in solidarity condemning such act at the people. My reason for coming here is to show that solidarity and support in their care in one way or the other and the hospital management in what they are doing and again condemn this senseless act of violent killing.
“We therefore condoled with the government and the good people of Kano as well urged all as a country to stand together in fighting such a senseless act,” Obi stated.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr. Husseini Muhammad, stated that the hospital received 23 victims, of whom 15 have died while eight are still receiving medical treatment.
Muhammad praised the LP Presidential Candidate’s visit, noting it symbolizes the unity and oneness of the country. Seven patients are in Surgical Ward C, and one is in critical condition in the hospital’s Mother ICU.
Becksblog previously reported that a young man stormed the mosque during 5 a.m. prayers, set about 40 people on fire, and reportedly locked them inside to prevent their escape.
The suspect is being investigated at the moment.
