Two individuals identified as David Iluebe and Chike Eke who are posing as lecturers were apprehended at Bayero University Kano (BUK) for allegedly selling books to unsuspecting 100-level students.
University authorities were tipped off by students who reported the suspicious activities of the fake lecturers.
The impostors had been conducting unauthorized book sales, claiming the materials were mandatory for coursework.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that neither individual was employed by the university.
The suspects were detained by campus security and subsequently handed over to local police for further investigation.
The Vice-Chancellor of BUK, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, addressed the incident, emphasizing the university’s commitment to safeguarding students from fraud and exploitation.
He urged students to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be faculty members and to report any suspicious activities to university authorities immediately.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for students to remain vigilant and for institutions to strengthen their security measures against such deceptive practices.
