Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Four-Year-Old Girl in Enugu, Claims He Was Under Influence of Drugs
A 30-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Nweke, has been arrested by the Enugu State Police for allegedly stabbing his neighbor’s four-year-old daughter, Zinachukwu Ugwu, to death.
The incident occurred on August 18 in Nsukka Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Mr. Ndukwe, Nweke reportedly attacked the child while she was sleeping in her family’s home, slitting her throat with a knife.
Prior to this, the suspect attempted to attack other neighbors but focused his assault on the child.
The child was immediately rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her body has since been deposited in the mortuary.
Following his arrest, police recovered the weapon used in the crime, along with quantities of suspected Indian hemp and a charm believed to be in Nweke’s possession.
During interrogation, Nweke confessed to the murder, claiming he was under the influence of Indian hemp, alcohol, and methamphetamine at the time.
He also disclosed his membership in the Vikings Confraternity and admitted to killing another person during a cult clash in Jos, Plateau State, in 2022.
The case has shocked the local community, with authorities urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
