The Nigerian Army has detained a woman, Grace Markus, on suspicion of acting as an informant for kidnappers operating in Taraba and Benue states.
Markus is accused of aiding in the abduction of one Malam Saidu at his residence in Vesee, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to a statement released by Captain Oni Olubodunde Markus, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Grace Markus was arrested on September 6, 2024, following an intelligence-led operation by troops stationed in Sondi village, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation was initiated in response to the recent kidnapping of Malam Saidu, with Grace Markus suspected of facilitating the crime.
Further investigations revealed that Markus is romantically involved with a notorious kidnapper known as Chen, who has been linked to multiple kidnapping operations in border communities between Taraba and Benue states.
Captain Markus disclosed that Grace Markus is currently in custody, where she is undergoing interrogation to determine her level of involvement in other criminal activities.
The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Army to combat kidnapping and criminal elements in the region.
