Popular media figure Ossai Ovie Success has criticized singer Davido for wearing Yoruba attire alongside Chioma in their recently released pre-wedding photos. On his Facebook page, an aide to the Delta State governor expressed his view that Davido showed disrespect towards Igbo culture by choosing Yoruba clothing while marrying an Igbo woman.
He emphasized that in numerous African traditions, wearing the bride’s traditional attire signifies respect and solidarity. While he conveyed happiness for the couple and intends to attend their wedding, he felt compelled to voice his perspective.
In his statement: “Davido disrespected Igbo culture by wearing Yoruba attire during his wedding to an Igbo woman, Chioma. His choice in pre-wedding photos was an affront to Igbo culture. As a man, it is crucial to honor your wife’s culture by dressing in accordance with it. I was taken aback to see Davido in Yoruba attire despite marrying Chioma, who is Igbo.”
“As someone who values cultural heritage, I believe it’s essential to uphold and honor each other’s traditions, particularly during significant events like weddings. In many African cultures, wearing the bride’s cultural attire is a gesture of respect and unity.”
