In a surprising development, English Premier League club Manchester United has announced the departure of Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag.
Formerly a successful manager with Ajax, Ten Hag’s tenure at United culminated with a 2-1 loss to West Ham United, marking his last game in charge, as reported by Becksblog.
The club issued a statement expressing gratitude for Ten Hag’s contributions while revealing that former United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy will step in as interim head coach, assisted by the existing coaching team, as the club searches for a permanent replacement.
“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the statement read.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
Though Ten Hag’s future had been questioned over the summer following United’s worst-ever Premier League finish, the new management led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe opted to extend his contract by one year.
