The Minister for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has urged residents of Sokoto State to report jobless individuals living flamboyantly to security agencies.
Speaking at the Sokoto State Governor’s office, Matawalle emphasized that such persons could potentially be informants for bandits causing unrest in the region.
Matawalle, who was in Sokoto alongside Chief of Defence, General Christopher Musa, on a mission directed by President Bola Tinubu to combat banditry in Northern Nigeria, stressed the importance of community cooperation.
He highlighted that during his tenure as the Governor of Zamfara State, similar measures were crucial in tackling insecurity.
The Minister reassured residents that the military is fully supporting all security efforts in the state. He mentioned the recent employment of 200 individuals from each of Sokoto’s 23 local governments into the Sokoto Community Guard Corps to bolster security.
“If you see someone who is not doing any work and such a person is changing cars, spending money lavishly, please do not hesitate to report such person, as such person is liable to be an informant to bandits,” Matawalle stated, urging residents to remain vigilant.
He concluded by assuring the state government’s continued support to the security agencies, particularly the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, to ensure the safety and security of Sokoto State.
