Meet Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, The Newly Appointed Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs And Poverty Reduction
Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda has been newly appointed as Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Yilwatda brings with him a wealth of academic and professional experience, particularly in the areas of engineering, software development, and sustainable energy.
Yilwatda’s educational background includes a B.Eng. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (1992), followed by an M.Eng. and Ph.D. in Digital Systems Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from ATBU Bauchi and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He has over 25 years of teaching and research experience, notably in software engineering and renewable energy technologies.
His career spans roles such as Assistant Lecturer at Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi, and a lengthy tenure as the Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, where he served for 12 years.
Yilwatda has also provided consultancy services to numerous international development partners, including UNICEF and the European Union, focusing on energy and ICT reforms.
Yilwatda was a key player in several major projects, such as the deployment of eco-friendly electricity to Nigerian communities under the PAWA 774 Project.
His work also extended to electoral reforms during his time as an INEC Commissioner, where he played a significant role in developing voting frameworks for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and overseeing electoral processes across various states.
Apart from his professional expertise, Yilwatda was the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial flag bearer for Plateau State in 2023.
He is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and an active member of various professional associations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Solar Society of Nigeria.
With this appointment, Yilwatda is set to apply his vast knowledge and leadership skills to address the pressing issues of poverty reduction and humanitarian affairs in Nigeria.
