Pastor Olumide Emmanuel has challenged traditional gender norms in marriage, emphasizing that submission is not solely a woman’s responsibility.
Speaking on the principles of Christian marriage, the clergyman highlighted the importance of mutual respect and submission between spouses, describing it as a core tenet of “kingdom culture.”
He urged men to honor their wives’ perspectives and acknowledge their superior judgment in certain situations.
“Men, I will tell you for free, respect a woman’s sensitivity if you want to do well in life,” Pastor Emmanuel stated.
He explained that many married men could attest to the wisdom of heeding their wives’ advice, noting that ignoring such counsel often leads to trouble.
He further dismissed the idea of domineering masculinity in marriage, calling it a harmful cultural norm.
“Don’t let Africa kill you. Forget that nonsense of ‘I’m the man of this house, you can’t tell me what to do.’ Marriage is not an African culture; it’s a kingdom culture,” he said.
Quoting scripture, Pastor Emmanuel pointed out that Christian teachings encourage mutual submission.
“The Bible says, submitting yourself one to another. Mutual submission is a kingdom agenda for marriage. So there are times you need to submit to your wife. Submit to your woman,” he concluded.
