Zainab Ado Bayero, daughter of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has made a public plea for additional financial support from President Bola Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other well-meaning Nigerians.
The appeal comes two months after Governor Yusuf intervened to prevent Zainab, her brother, and her mother from being evicted from their apartment in Lagos.
In a statement released in June, the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature, confirmed that Governor Yusuf had arrived in Lagos to meet with the General Manager of the apartment where the Bayero family had been staying.
The governor’s timely intervention followed an outcry by Zainab, who had publicly expressed concerns over her family’s financial struggles and the lack of support from the royal family after the passing of her father.
Zainab, her mother, and brother have reportedly faced significant challenges since the demise of the late Emir.
Although they expressed gratitude for Governor Yusuf’s assistance, which came just minutes before they were to be evicted, Zainab recently revealed in an interview that the financial aid provided was insufficient to meet their ongoing needs.
“We’re in a dire situation again,” Zainab stated, adding that their hotel booking has now expired, and they have no place to stay as of Saturday, August 24. She explained that the funds provided by the governor were not enough to secure a permanent home, and the family is still struggling to find stability.
Despite the governor’s efforts, Zainab expressed a preference for relocating to Lagos permanently, citing the need for safety and freedom.
She mentioned that the family requires approximately N150 million to purchase a home in Lagos and that they are still in need of further assistance to cover basic living expenses.
Zainab’s appeal underscores the challenges her family has faced since the death of her father, highlighting the difficulties of navigating life without the expected support from their extended family.
As the family continues to seek a solution, Zainab remains hopeful that well-meaning Nigerians will step in to provide the necessary assistance.
