Popular Nigerian singer Skales recently voiced his frustration with the Nigerian Police, sharing his experience on social media.
In a series of tweets, the singer expressed his dissatisfaction with what he described as continuous harassment and exploitation of young Nigerians, particularly on Orchid Road, Lagos.
Skales’ tweet read, “My hate for Nigerian police still stands … very horrible set of humans. Police wey no get money go dey stress fellow poor man knowing fully well what their doing is wrong… knowing fully well that they are just taking advantage of power given to them…”
He went on to describe repeated checkpoints in a short span of distance, specifically targeting drivers of luxury vehicles like Benz, often leading to confrontations and demands for money.
Skales questioned the legality of such checkpoints, saying, “Is it even legal to have 3 to 4 checkpoints just 2 minutes apart from each other?”
The singer’s post concluded with a pledge to start recording and posting such encounters online as a form of accountability.
His public stance has sparked a conversation about the challenges many Nigerians face when dealing with law enforcement.
The Nigerian Police Force has not yet responded to the artist’s concerns.
However, Skales’ post has resonated with many Nigerians who face similar experiences on the roads daily, bringing attention to ongoing concerns regarding police conduct in the country.
