Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, once again did not appear at the Federal High Court in Abuja for his arraignment on corruption charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Prominent media previously reported that Bello’s lawyer had assured the court he would appear, though he expressed concerns for Bello’s safety.
Despite this, Bello failed to appear in court on Thursday. Consequently, Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the case to June 27, 2024.
The EFCC had filed 19 charges against Bello on April 18, alleging criminal breach of trust and money laundering, involving N80.25 billion diverted from Kogi State funds.
Additionally, he faces accusations of using intermediaries to purchase property in Abuja with illicit funds.
