Nigerians were once again left in the dark as the national power grid collapsed for the third time in seven days, worsening the country’s electricity crisis.
The latest grid failure, which occurred early Saturday morning, left many states in total blackout and has further disrupted businesses, homes, and critical infrastructure across the country.
Data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) showed that the grid hit zero megawatts (MW) by 8:16 AM, leaving all 22 power generation companies (GenCos) offline.
This marks the eighth grid collapse in 2024, highlighting the ongoing issues plaguing Nigeria’s power sector.
Despite the widespread effects, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had yet to issue an official statement at the time of this report.
