In anticipation of today’s “protest against hunger and bad governance,” the Kaduna State Police Command has announced the deployment of over 25,000 security personnel to strategic flashpoints across the state.
The move aims to ensure law and order during the demonstration, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan.
The security deployment includes personnel from the police, armed forces, and other security agencies. Hassan emphasized that this massive deployment is intended to enforce strict compliance with public order during the protest.
Ahead of the protest, security personnel, led by the police commissioner and other top security officials, conducted a confidence-building patrol within Kaduna metropolis.
Hassan noted that this show of force is designed to serve as a clear warning to anyone seeking to use the protest to destabilize the state. The patrol aimed to showcase the capabilities and readiness of security agencies to maintain peace and order.
Several high-ranking officers participated in the operation, including the Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, the Garrison Commander of the 1 Division Nigerian Army Kaduna, the Air Officer Commanding 453 Base Service Group Kaduna, the Commander of Civil Defense, the Commander of Kaduna State Vigilante Service (KADVS), as well as all assistant commissioners of police (ACPOLs) and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).
“The primary objective of this show of force is to deter individuals with malicious intent from engaging in any form of violence during the upcoming protest,” Hassan stated. “Effective deployment of over 25,000 police, armed forces, and other security personnel has been made in strategic flashpoints to ensure strict compliance with public order.”
The statement also reiterated that while the police will not deny citizens their constitutional right to peaceful assembly and protest, the demonstration must remain peaceful.
