The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has mandated the prompt reactivation of phone lines recently deactivated due to complications with the National Identification Number (NIN) linkage.
This order follows widespread complaints from subscribers who found their lines blocked over the weekend because their NINs were not correctly verified with their SIM cards.
The NCC’s directive aims to provide consumers additional time to complete the NIN-SIM linkage and restore access to their lines.
This measure is part of the NCC’s broader initiative to bolster national security and ensure the accuracy of the SIM ownership database.
The commission has previously extended the deadline for the NIN-SIM linkage several times, with the latest deadline set for July 31, 2024.
