The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a strong condemnation of social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for the unauthorized use of police uniforms.
This follows the widespread circulation of a video in which VDM is seen donning official police attire without proper authorization.
In an official statement, the NPF expressed its disassociation from VDM’s actions, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter.
The Force has initiated a comprehensive investigation to trace the origin of the police uniforms displayed in the video and ascertain whether VDM had any official permission to wear them.
The statement reiterated that the unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia, or equipment is a criminal offense under Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, carrying strict penalties.
The NPF aims to uphold the values and integrity of the Force and will not tolerate any misuse of its symbols.
While acknowledging the creativity of young Nigerians in content creation, the NPF cautioned against actions that undermine the authority and reputation of the police.
The investigation seeks to clarify the situation and reinforce the message that such unauthorized portrayals will have consequences.
