A viral social media post by Nigerian barrister Ifunanya Anona has sparked widespread discussion after detailing a complex land dispute in a Nigerian community.
According to Anona’s post, a man purchased a plot of land for N4 million from another man within the same community.
However, just three weeks later, a telecom company approached the new owner with a proposal to buy the land for N80 million to erect a network mast.
The twist in the story arose when the original seller, upon learning of the telecom company’s offer, attempted to revoke the sale, claiming that he never sold the land and insisting on returning the N4 million to the buyer.
However, the seller reportedly does not have the N4 million available and has stated that he will only repay the buyer once the telecom company pays the N80 million.
The dispute has escalated to the community chief’s palace, where the original seller is adamant that the land must be returned to him, regardless of the circumstances.
The situation has drawn attention to the complexities of land ownership and sale agreements in Nigeria, where legal and ethical challenges often arise in the rapidly changing economic landscape.
